My trip to India PDF Print E-mail

Sharing across continentsMy study trip to India in the beginning of 2009 was a very good experience. I had a chance to meet other homeopaths from all over the world. As a student I was very happy to mingle with experienced homeopaths, and see how they solve problems. I lack colleagues here. I always grow in confidence when I meet experienced homeopaths, either when they come here to teach, or in India.

I also enjoyed to see how Dr Klayan handled patients: he’s very patient, he’s the most patient doctor I’ve ever seen. He also makes sure that their targets are achieved by changing remedies according to the changing symptoms, until the totality of symptoms is cleared.

Lectures from other experienced homeopaths were also good: Dr Kocha, Dr Kalisanka and Dr Dilip. I saw what make good homeopaths. They are patient, good listeners, observant – from the moment the patient enters the room; they don’t jump into conclusions. I’ve also learnt to use the repertory and the MM carefully before prescribing.

I like the way they practice in India, and I like the fact that homeopathy is generally embraced, unlike in Ghana. People know what homeopathy is there, and they appreciate it. Patients come to clinics for years with chronic problems. They trust homeopathy and trust that they will get what they want out of it. In Ghana, if you don’t deliver immediately people will leave you. Homeopathy has just been introduced here, so almost no one knows what it is and what it can do.

Students and teachers in IndiaThis starting to change through the Seva clinics where we have a vision of an integrated health care from pregnancy to old age. Homeopathy is having a positive effect already in the midwives clinic, acutes and chronic clinics as well as in the surrounding 50 villages. Pastor John, who was in the Seva team, has now moved to the coast and is setting up a homeopathic clinic there too with the help of the Ghana Homeopathy Project

I also had the privilege to learn for the first time about psychiatry. Dr Dilip specialises in the subject and taught us a lot. We also saw how homeopathy can treat psychiatric patients.

The trip has given me a lot of confidence for my practice here, especially with regards to case-taking. I now have the confidence to insist on getting the details before arriving to conclusions. I’ve also learnt about nosodes, which I didn’t know about. The result is that I’m much better equipped to treat chronic patients now.

I’d like to thank Angie, Linda, Errol, Grace, Wendy, and everybody in the group, both European an Indian, for giving me so much support. I thought I’ll be alone, but I felt at home. I owe them a great gratitude. Also Sheila ( seva co-ordinator GHP) – who’s always caring for me.

Especially, I’d like to thank all the people who donated money, and made my trip possible, and especially Sheaf trust!

I’ll be very happy for a chance to do something similar in the future, as it really upgrades my practice!

About Homeopathy

Over thirty million people in Europe already benefit from homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy could help you too.
What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing, suitable for everyone, young and old. Homeopathy focuses on you as an individual, concentrating on treating your specific physical and emotional symptoms, to give long lasting benefits.

* Homeopathic treatment works with your body's own healing powers to bring health and well being.
* Patients are treated as individuals, not as a collection of disease labels.
* Homeopathy treats all your symptoms - mental, emotional and physical.
* Homeopathic remedies are gentle, subtle and powerful.

To get in touch with a qualified homeopath near you, call The Society of Homeopaths on 0845 450 6611 who will give you a list of professional, registered homeopaths nearest to your home, and answer any of your questions.
How long has Homeopathy been used?

Homeopathy has been used in the UK for over two hundred years, but has an honourable tradition dating back to ancient Greece. It was Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant doctor working in 1796 who developed the scientific and philosophical foundations of this gentler way of healing. These scientific principles form the basis of successful homeopathic practice today.
What happens when you see a homeopath?

Your homeopath understands that establishing good health involves treating both mind and body, so time is taken to listen to your emotional and physical symptoms. To stimulate your body's own healing process, a remedy closest to your individual symptom picture is prescribed. Healing begins from within your body, strengthening your health and immune system, without any danger of damaging side effects.
Are homeopathic remedies safe?

Homeopathic remedies are a unique, potentised energy medicine, drawn from the plant, mineral and animal worlds. They work by gently boosting the natural energy of the body, and are very safe, even for pregnant and sensitive patients. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity.
What can homeopathy treat?

Homeopathy treats the person, there is some evidence to suggest it can help a person manage the symptoms of acute fevers, sore throats and toothache, to chronic illnesses such as arthritis, eczema, asthma, anxiety and insomnia.
Where can I find a qualified homeopath?

The Society of Homeopaths produces a frequently updated register of professionally trained homeopaths, who work to the Society's Code of Ethics & Practice. You can find one in your area by consulting the register available on this website or telephone 0845 450 6611 and we will mail a copy to you.
